Jewelry Care
-
To prolong the life of your pieces it is recommended you remove jewelry before sleep, shower, gym, cleaning, any work rough on hands, gardening, swim (chlorine can weaken gold, tarnish and corrode sterling silver and eat away at epoxy used to secure pearls) and any skincare routine as products may leave a greasy film on jewelry and dirty it faster.
-
Before trying on clothes, remove large earrings, necklaces and rings to prevent any snagging or pulling of yarns/threads.
-
When getting ready, put jewelry on last to avoid contact with any hairspray, perfume, makeup or skincare products.
-
Jewelry may be cleaned with warm water and mild dish soap.
-
Do not clean your jewelry with detergent, toothpaste, baking soda or anything abrasive.
-
Use any lint free cotton jewelry polishing cloth.
-
Keep jewelry away from prolonged sunlight exposure and moisture, while 14k gold will obtain little to no tarnish, since it is mixed with other alloys (not pure gold) its chances of tarnishing increase with exposure to oxygen, humidity and sulfur. Sterling silver is prone to tarnish therefore may require more regular cleaning. Both metals benefit from wear, especially sterling silver as the oils in your skin can keep from tarnish build up.
-
Store your pieces separately, whether in a jewelry box, original box or cloth pouch to reduce the risk of scratches and tangled chains. Sterling silver may also benefit from being stored in an anti tarnish pouch or cloth.
-
Special note for Pearl Care - While pearls love to be worn and benefit from the moisture of natural body oils, pearls are also soft and prone to scratches so take extra care and store them in separate fabric lined compartments in a jewelry box or wrap in a soft cloth or pouch. Do not store in airtight containers as overtime they can dry out and crack. Clean only as needed if pearls show visible stains, clean by using a damp cloth with a mix of lukewarm water and mild dish soap. After wear, use a soft cloth to gently wipe pearls of any sweat, perfume, excess oils or dirt before putting away.
